Just where do I start, the sunshine, the mountains , the 39 beaches, the list just goes on and on. But whats important is we live on a very safe Island. Its quite in the winter but still enough people around to not get lonely.

Since being here we have not had much luck with cars. We broke down a couple of times and on the first occasion a car pulled up with 4 young guys and to our amazement they stopped to ask if they could help us. On the 2nd occasion an elderly man came to our aid. He came out of his house and called out to check we was OK, he then came over to our car and tried to assist us. We have been made to feel so welcome since we have lived here and it is great to be around genuine friendly people.

Living in Kefalonia is like growing up in England in the 70’s. Kids play out after school here and they go to the village square or the village hall. They learn how to be children and not sitting in all day on the XBOX or PlayStation. They are not competing on the newest toys or game because they are out playing and being children. We sit in the evening listening to the children playing and learning the Greek dancing. If you go to Poros in the evening you will find a very friendly vibe. The families are sitting in the restaurants and the children are all playing in the square outside of the restaurants. Its good old fashioned living and we love it.

We have 2 properties on the Island, one is a small 2 bedroom house close to Agia Effimia and we stay there during the summer time. This house was horrendous when we brought it and has cost a lot of money to renovate as everything had to be replaced and I mean everything. Its a comfortable house and the most wonderful views, not forgetting it is close to Myrtos beach. Our 2nd property is a beautiful villa in Agia Irini, Poros. We rent the villa out. Its a 2 bedroom villa and sleeps 6 people. Agia Irini is a traditional Greek village and the children are lovely. We have been made to feel so welcome in the village and even the children say Hi and wave to us.I am amazed at how many Greek people on the Island speak excellent English. The Village is close to Poros Port, beach , bars and restaurants.

When you come to Kefalonia, don’t just go to the local beach, explore the Island. We have been here over a year now and we are still exploring. The beaches here are great and the crystal blue clear water in the summer is unbelievable. The best beaches are the hidden ones. We love to drive out to see what we can find. Last summer we hired a boat from George’s boats and had a great day out on the boat and for a reasonable price. We will definitely be hiring a boat from George again. He is based in Poros close to the port. The whole family enjoyed the day and jumping from the boat into the sea was good too.

The only problem with living in Kefalonia Greece is the days do not have enough hours in them.
