Imagine going on your summer holiday and it rains the whole time! you would be so fed up. You have saved all year round and for what! its raining and you cannot go out. You might have children and all they want to do is fight each other because they are bored. You would have been better off staying at home. Although the UK are having great weather at the time of writing this, you know it will not last.

Kefalonia has a magical feel to it and in our village the walls have been painted, the hedges have been cut and cleared and we can now see Hercules and the lion statue at the bottom of our road. Last year we was very disappointed as the area looked a little neglected but thankfully this year things are very different and the work that has been carried out is very noticeable.

As soon as the plane lands your holiday begins. When the doors open and the sun comes bursting into the cabin and you feel that heat, you smile and think this is going to be a great holiday. From this time on and until you return home you will experience a wonderful holiday. Now is the time to slow down and let the stress go away. You are not in a rush to get anywhere so if you are driving, slow down and enjoy the scenery. Just remember the roads are different to the UK and you will often find yourself driving through the mountains . You need to watch out for the cheeky goats who think they own the road and will only walk slowly when you are waiting to pass. If you are worried you will get lost, just use your phone on google maps. But remember when using this you need to try to stay to the main roads as sometimes google maps will take you down some tiny roads. The first time I drove in Kefalonia the sat nav took me off a main road and before I knew it I was on the edge of the mountain and could not turn back. Lesson learnt.

Everything about Kefalonia is just great even the winter. We have glorious weather usually from May to October with the odd bit of rain and thunder which is usually at night time. The weather tends to be warm up until Christmas. January starts to be cold and wet. The Island is quite as only the permanent residents are on the island, the holiday people have gone home and a lot of the businesses close down. It can get a bit lonely and you can often find you are the only person on the roads as you will rarely see another car unless you are going to Argostoli.

The summer is here and the temperature is rising, so don’t forget your sun tan cream and to carry water with you as you are going to need it. It is June and the heat is still bearable, the evenings are warm and the Island has welcomed the holiday makers and the cruise ships. There has been a lot of improvements across the Island and I am sure the environmental tax has been paying for all the improvements. In Argostoli the new pavements are nearly complete and I have noticed a lot of the roadsides have been cleared and the grass cut.
